Jameel Mason and Alix Ford drop one of the finest hip hop collabs in recent times. Combining their talents, they synergise wholly, and their quality rises to the top with a captivating mix.
‘Quarantine Mami’ kicks off with a vocal sample which gets the show on the road. I am unsure if this is Alix Ford in the opener, but whoever it is, they shine instantly. From the opener, Jameel Mason catapults himself forward with a catchy rap performance. Furthermore, the New Jersey star shines more than ever before with a vocal which will have you frothing from the chops.
The message hits home. As a result, many will be able to relate with the specialist lyricism. Also, I relish how Alix continues the story taking a fresh perspective from the receiving end of Jameel’s message. She mirrors back the energy, and she sings with her heart on her sleeve, taking no prisoners with her upfront approach.
Cleverly, the pair introduce an arrangement which we do not hear all too often in the modern scene. Jameel takes hints from the greats including ‘Drake’ and ’50 Cent’, but credit goes to the pair also for creating an individual sound of their own. As a result, it cements them deep in the genre, and many will find it hard to question their potential of becoming some of the biggest names in the future.
Overall, it is a track which pushes onward with a sound which you will not be able to find elsewhere. Also, combined, they create a force which is hard to ignore, not like you would want to.
