Dublin indie rockers Von Venn are set to drop their latest single “You Can Talk To Me” on June 27th, marking the first glimpse into their forthcoming album “Forgetting the Fall.”
The four-piece, spearheaded by songwriter Gary Cox, has been quietly building momentum since their well-received previous record “Jeanie Is Out” put them on the map with tracks like “Ghost” and “Constant Girl.” Now they’re back with what promises to be their most compelling work yet.
“Forgetting the Fall” finds the band diving deep into life’s messier moments, tracing a path from naive beginnings through complicated relationships and ultimately toward something resembling peace. Cox spent most of 2024 crafting these songs before the band headed into Dublin’s Soundcaster Studios to bring them to life.
The new single perfectly captures what Von Venn does best. “You Can Talk To Me” opens with a guitar line that immediately grabs your attention, backed by a rhythm section that keeps things moving without ever feeling rushed. What makes the song special, though, is how it tells its story.
The track reads like a late night conversation between two people who aren’t being entirely honest with themselves or each other. There’s an undercurrent of attraction and confusion running through the whole thing, with both characters insisting they’re “just killing time” while clearly wanting something more. When Cox sings “You can talk to me” in the chorus, it feels both inviting and loaded with meaning.
Von Venn’s lineup brings together Cox on vocals and multiple instruments with Terry Doyle handling keyboards and additional vocals, Ciara Henry adding her voice to the mix, and Mark Wogan keeping time behind the kit. The combination creates something that feels both familiar and fresh, drawing from indie rock’s rich history while carving out their own space.
The band has always excelled at writing songs that stick with you long after they end, and “You Can Talk To Me” continues that tradition. There’s a confidence in their sound now that suggests “Forgetting the Fall” could be the record that really establishes Von Venn as a band to watch.
The single hits all major streaming platforms on June 27th, and if it’s any indication of what’s to come on the full album, listeners are in for something special. Von Venn has managed to create music that works both in your headphones and in a room full of people, no small feat in today’s crowded musical landscape.
With “Forgetting the Fall” on the horizon, Von Venn seems poised to step into a bigger spotlight. “You Can Talk To Me” feels like the perfect introduction to this next chapter.
