Calboa

Hull indie rocker, Calboa is back with all guns blazing. Furthermore, his latest release ‘Admission’ is a treat for anyone who loves good old indie rock and roll.

Taking no prisoners, from the start, Calboa smashes his track forward with conviction. He starts with a guitar rhythm which comes in bright light. It sounds similar to indie from yesteryear but yet he also brings contemporary hooks too for good measure.

The vocal which arrives after the intro section is delightful. Furthermore, Calboa grips us in with his sharper than a serpents tooth tone. He sings with his all, and it is evident that he is growing in his role as being a leading solo name in indie. Also, his lyrical ability is on display here with his poetic tongue flourishing. But, I would enjoy more backing in this track, and a little more harmonies in places could have given it even more profound weight.

As the track progresses, we probe deeper into Calboa’s space. His chorus is brave, and he sings with the utmost integrity. He never messes around when it comes to lyrics, and he tells us exactly how it is from the moment he opens his vocal cords. It makes a memorable hook which influences us to keep coming back. Also, he pierces with charm, and his beguiling fashion is challenging to resist.

Overall, ‘Admission’ is an indie gem. It takes hints from the best but yet we also witness Calboa opening a new chapter with his feel-good indie taking more of a forward position. Also, given his previous tracks which are a little more solemn, this one is a refreshing new direction. Again, it proves that the singer can easily mix up his sound, and he does it very well on this unique piece.
